WHAT IS EASTERN STAR?

The Order of the Eastern Star is a masonic fraternity of women and men dedicated to charity, truth and loving kindness. Membership is based on a masonic affiliation or relationship, a belief in God, a desire to acquire additional knowledge and for self improvement.  The Order of the Eastern Star teach lessons of fidelity, loyalty, faith and love. We work diligently towards gaining a greater understanding of God's holy bible.

Local Eastern Star Chapters select their own charities and places of service in their own communities. Some projects include scholarships for ministerial students, support for agencies that work with youth and children, or programs that address specific health issues.  In addition, each year a special charity is selected for emphasis, examples being Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer Diabeties, Summer Camps for Children, and Adult Shelters or Residential Group Homes.  The Eastern Star is also a social organization with frequent formal events and ceremonies. Being a member is a wonderful and fulfilling way of life.

This Order was conceived, written and taught by a Master Mason to provide a place where both men and women could work and serve side by side. It is now the largest Fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women belong. It encircles the world with over 10,000 Chapters in the United States, Canada and 18 other countries. There are now more than 1.2 million members.

Master Masons in good standing, the wives, mothers, daughters, legally adopted daughters, widows, sisters, half-sisters, step daughters, step-sisters, granddaughters, stepmothers, daughters-in-law, grandmothers, great granddaughters, nieces, mothers-in-law, sister-in-law and daughters of sisters or brothers of Master Masons in good standing at the time of death are eligible for membership.

This fraternal Order is comprised of people with deep religious convictions and spiritual values. It is open to all faiths. The membership is admonished to aid, comfort and protect each other by sharing the joys and sorrows of life. The rewards are many as members work and play together in love and charity and become life long friends, sisters and brothers.

The Order is governed by a set of rules and regulations from the Grand Lodge (state level) and by a set of by-laws in each subordinate Lodge or Chapter.  Those who desire membership must petition to do so, are investigated for eligibility, and are voted on by the membership. Any member of the Order is pleased to provide an application, or contact ___________________ for additional information.
